"MNS LAMIBA Beginner Birding" Training Workshop Day 2

Met up in Jelai Highland Resort @ 7am for birding.

Our first bird was a Long Tailed Sibia. A common bird in Fraser's Hill but still, a lifer for some of us!

Little Pied Flycatcher - Female

Chestnut-capped Laughingthrush

Food in the drain?

Himalayan Striped Squirrel

Grey-chinned Minivet

After 2 hours and 30 minutes of birding, off we go back to Silverpark Resort for some classroom discussion and ID-ing our birds.

That morning alone the group recorded 20 different kinds of birds, most of which are lifers for us.
Oh learnt a new term used among birders.
Lifer: A first-ever sighting of a bird species by an observer; an addition to one's life list.
As for myself, I only saw 12 birds. Still, the most I've seen in a day!
Next we headed to the Bird Interpretive Centre, the first of its kind in Malaysia up here in Frasers Hill

This is what FHill was like for all 3 days when I was there!

A familiar sight!! The Oriental Magpie Robin
The Bird Interpretive Centre is a must-go for all especially birders!
Lots of information there such as History of Fraser's Hill, Birdwatching, Bird Anatomy, Activities in Fraser's Hill, etc etc.
There are 2 TVs showing bird recordings, 1 at the entrance and 1 inside.
Bird Interpretive Centre (2nd floor)
Kid's Corner
Think twice when you say there's nothing to do up in Frasers Hill!

Viewing a video recording of birds.

The NGOs which contributed to the BIC

Mr Durai was joking saying the amount of contribution = the size of the board given!

Lunch @ Silverpark Resort
Back @ Silverpark, Eileen introduced Bird i*witness Malaysia(BIW) and demonstrated how to use the website.
Basically, BIW is an online internet database for anyone to submit and share their personal observations of birds. This data will then contribute to effective conservation of birds and biodiversity.
and in case if you lost your bird notebook, you can still access your past submitted records online!

Everyone was given a chance to record.
Went to Bishop Trail for birding round 2 after that.
Unfortunately it wasn't fruitful due to rain and partly due to me not looking for birds as I was tired. :x
Back to Silerpark again.
Spider web catching water droplets

Glenda talking about the Hornbills in Malaysia.
Out of 10 species of Hornbills in Malaysia, 6 can be seen in Fraser's Hill.
We were given a Checklist of the Birds of Malaysia book and brochure of Hornbills
